Last night's chat and congrats to the forum

Postby Fred588 » Tue Jan 26, 2010 7:20 am

Something must have been going on last night. Congrats to the board itself for shattering the record for most visitors in a five-minute period (from 38 to 43). Interesting things also happened in the chat room. We had one person come in and comment that he or she had not been aware we even had a chat room (the link is on the index page near the upper right for anyone else who doesn't know). Then, with a period of about 25 minutes, chat attendance went from about 3 to 10. That is the most we have had for some time. It was an active chat and some cool pics were shared.

We're there most every night.

I have been there only a couple of times and chatted with gracious Fred, though I think I am in bed when it gets more populated :(
The link to it, is on the small side and I believe the link only appears when you are logged in. This is just a suggestion, as the link appears rather inconspicuous and unknown to some here, but it would great if there was Chatroom heading as part of the main board index, it might prompt more to check it out perhaps.

Thanks for the compliment.

For those who also are just hering about the chat room, the link is on the main index page, near the upper right. It says "chat" followed by a numbver that indicates (often inaccurately, I am afraid) how many people are in the room at the time the page was loaded. The busiest times are pretty much from about y to about 10, or so. every evening (Central US Time Zone). After 10 there might be more busy times but I have pretty much gone to bed by then so I can really say.

Topics run the gamut (whatever a gamut is) from today's news and weather to atual discussion of quicksand. One thing we try to ask new chatters to do is to remember to log out when they leave, rather than just close the window. That helps keep the count accurate on the index page and eliminates people trying to talk to ghosts.

To a limited extent, the chat room can also be used to share images and there is some support for simple games or roleplaying in the form of a random number generator.

I'll get with Kookus about this. I think that the User Control Panel suffers from the same lack of prominence.

He's mentioned some back-end issues he'd like to address. So maybe we can lump this issue with those next time he works on the board.
