Quicksand in Maine?

Just got back from a trip to Maine and I couldn't help noticing the streams/creeks/rivers were very muddy along the banks. Some in fact look quite dangerous. Lots of mud flat areas with very little water over them. Any New Englanders familiar with these? Also wondering if there is any history of news reports of people needing to be rescued.
For the sinkers out there, since I saw these easily from a car, there most be more isolated areas to explore as well.

Much of that mud is tidal, and has been used by producers in the past, most notably ArchEnemys. This is especially true around Casco Bay. Further up in Maine, near Orono, there are some good peat bogs, too, but I have not explored those personally. There are some news and TV indications of deep tidal mud in Maine - a reality show from a few years back had a scene of a male getting stuck in deep tidal mud while digging for clams (I remember it being mentioned in the Nuggets section).

One drawback to Maine is the short season and very cold ocean waters. Maybe I'll try to shoot there this Fall, weather permitting - Elana Bohemia has been asking me to sink in more quicksand if possible!

A while back I was chatting online with a gal who visited Maine with her family and brought a friend along. She was saying they were at a beach and the BOTH wound up quicksand. They wound up in the same spot TWICE. First time they managed to get themselve out but the second time they had some help.
