Re: Japanese Sinking Scene
You can tell it's Chinese, mainly due to the subplot involving the inevitable reunification of the island with the mainland.

Ah well,....
On the one hand underwater-mud is really an issue to deal with while wading through standing water or tidal areas. On the other hand it just don't work on camera as you can see exactly nothing

It's almost entirely up to the talent to sell it (in this case it was better than average - at least at the start, IMO).
So if you want to figure out who 'gets it' .....

Re: Japanese Sinking Scene
First of all, I will be honest, the title of this thread was very premature on my part. Difficulty distinguishing between Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and others are lost on me. Therefore, with respect and not to offend anyone I will refer in the future as Asian ethnicity. That being said, I stand corrected.
Second, I agree that the scene could have been played more convincingly. Trying to just lift their legs, still holding hands didn't cut it for me. With water covering over the quicksand, you couldn't see their legs anyway. They could have acted as if their legs really stuck by swinging their arms and turning around by their waists but just keep their feet still, like they were doing the old-style dance called The Twist from the 1960s. Doing that would look like they were really trapped, IMHO.

Re: Japanese Sinking Scene
BTW, underwater sinking shots are cool too if your camera is waterproof enough.
And if the water isn't too murky to see.
