As the title implies, I've had no internet for two weeks due to a series of f*** ups by my (soon to to be former) ISP, so if y'all been wondering what happened to me, that would be it. After weeks of living in the dark ages, and hours of frustration on the phone with no signs of repair in sight; not to mention the empty promises of one day getting fiber, I finally thought screw it, and bought a Starlink system. Been pretty happy with it so far (just day two), but I still have a few things to figure out (like a permanent antenna mounting solution), and with the holiday craziness now upon us, it might be a week or two, or maybe even after Christmas before I resume posting stuff.
In the mean time, happy holidays everyone!

I have no idea of your location but things will probably get better, eventually. I had a similar problem until last March. The satellite service was fairly relable, except during thunderstorms or when ice coated the antenna, but it was SLOW and had an absurdly low monthly data cap. The electric company had been promising fiber optic cable for three years, and it FINALLY arrived last March. Very low latency, no data cap at all, 350 times faster for download, and 1400 timeds faster for upload. I can have uests in all three guest bedrooms, all watching Youtube videos in HD and not even notice any slowdown. And, in nine plus months the service has gone down exactly once for about six hours. For nearly everything I do, including uploading very large video files, the limiting factor on speed is at the other end.
For wht its worth, I typically get only about 70 percent of the bit rate I pay for, but even that is blazingly fast.

I could do that. I'd LOVE to do that. The '80s even! Some of the best holidays of my life.

Especially if it meant getting family members' noses out of their smart phones!

Hope you get everything sorted, Theo!

Holiday's are always like the 90's around here, mostly because most of the decorations are from the 90's or a little after

IDK which satellite ISP you had, but so far, I've been pleased with Starlink. I've been seeing 50-200 mbps depending on what device I'm using and how far it is from the router (much faster than the 8-9 mbps I was getting), and latency around 30 or 40 ms. It's supposed to be heated, but there hasn't been any ice here yet, so it's ability to handle it remains to be seen, but moderate rain and a little lightning doesn't seen to faze it. And I still haven't properly mounted/aligned it—maybe this week.
