Anniversary of Sorts - Anybody Else?

Postby Duncan Edwards » Tue Feb 11, 2025 8:40 pm

It just hit me that it was probably 30 years ago this week that I learned I was not alone with this fetish. I recall typing "quicksand" into the Netscape search engine and wasn't expecting much. I searched through the responses and saw The Quicksand Page. Couldn't believe it was anything but went there and watched as my life changed. The page unfolded at a blazing 2400 bps and at the very bottom was a picture of Shaun from Messyfun waist deep in mud and the words For those who LIKE quicksand next to a USENET link. That was it. Mind completely blown. I am not exaggerating when I say I was awake for the next three days searching the internet from one end to the other for more. All the space in my brain was absolutely vacated and replaced with this. I got into USENET and the first person I met was Kaol who sent me a story I'll never forget because I reread it about a hundred times. Rob Blaine, Foster Blake, Kaol, Jiminy Thicket, and some guy just as messed up as me named Dave Lodoski were all there. He had a BBS called MPV and I joined immediately along with sending checks to Messyfun and Chuck Lang. My life was changed in ways I could never have foreseen, all at this moment in history. For all those that are no longer among us, and all those who are, thank you.

It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Duncan - I was probably 3 years behind you, as we did not connect to the internet until 1998. But yeah, when I did the same search, I found the same sites, along with collections of neat stories (like Black Squirrel). It really was a load off my mind to see there were at least some others, like you said, as messed up as me. The browsing history tipped off my wife, who hadn’t known because I had just submerged it (pun intended). So I came clean, and she did not judge me over it, although it is just not for her.

The rest, as they say, is history. I hope this forum can continue - it is a rare day that I do not check it out. Thanks to Dave L for creating and maintaining it. Thanks to both of you for all the videos, as well.

And we’ve come a long way since dial-up. I remember it took about 30 minutes to scroll through the picture-story “Desire.” Just sitting and watching the illustrations paint themselves so slowly . . .

Glad to be of service. :-)

As far as the forum goes, I'll keep the lights on for as long as I can. Hopefully whoever ends up with it will feel the same dedication.

My personal path was somewhat pre-internet. I was put in contact with Rob Blaine (Messy Fun) by Roger Carpenter, who I sent a letter to after seeing some of his material (Aquantics) in a couple imported magazines (Razzle and Mayfair if memory serves).

In Rob's Messy News newsletter, there was a photo by Chuck Lang and a cartoon panel by Pete Bogs. Those two items were my personal 'I'm not the only one' moment. I got in touch with both of them through their 'boxes' at Messy News. Things bet a bit blurry after that. ;) The whole thing kicked off 1993-ish.

For me it was July of the same year (1995) following the same path as Duncan.

My, how time flies when we have fun!

Dear Fans of "Where Were You When Your Discovered Quicksand Online"?

It was about 1996 for me. I scored a nice grant for my organization and bought several computers, including two Red iMacs -- one for my office and one for work at home. It was a great set up.

And yes, the first night I cranked up my home iMac and got on the internet (with that godawful shriek of noise -- why on earth did engineers make something obnoxious like that??

Anyway, I thought if I search for "quicksand", I might find some Hollywood movie still or something.

Imagine my surprise at visiting The Quicksand Page, Kaol's early site, and one with some Chuck Lang photos (can't remember the name of the page, but it had Quicksand at the beginning).

It has indeed been a great experience and wonderful new world of horniness....

Thanks all!

For me I was 16, in the year 2000. I searched "Girls in Quicksand" in the AOL search engine. Koal's page came back "Help me I'm in Quicksand". And then went further down the rabbit hole with WAVE Movies and their Quicksand selection. To this day WAVE holds a special place.

I can't remember if it was 95 or 96 for me, and The Quicksand Page was probably the first page I found. Who could forget that photo of Shaun (Shawn?) in that dress in the mud?
