The usual lines were, "Hey (model name)" as sheenters the bar/casino. Followed by "Hey Fred." The idea was that Fred is always there, he knows everyone's name, and everyone knows him.

Re: To those no longer with us....
My daughter and I would would sit on the couch when she was very young and watch Cheers reruns together on occasion. You might think they have no idea what's really going on but kids pay attention to more than you might expect. She was about 4 years old when some guy came in and sat at the wrong end of the bar. She literally ran toward the tv yelling "Hey! Hey! That's Norm's seat!" Says a lot about the character you created when you can get a 3 or 4 year old kid raised on the Disney channel to remember you.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Rick Derringer, Singer of ‘Hang on Sloopy,’ Writer of ‘Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo’ and ‘Real American’ Wrestling Theme, Dies at 77
https://youtu.be/_YdBsF8sagQ
Rick Derringer, whose six-decade career spanned teen stardom as lead singer of the ‘60s smash “Hang on Sloopy,” a ‘70s solo hit with “Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo,” session work with artists from Steely Dan to Barbra Streisand, and extensive work as a writer and producer of wrestling themes like Hulk Hogan’s seemingly ageless “Real American,” has died, according to an announcement from his caretaker, Tony Wilson, and Guitar Player magazine.
Wilson’s post states that Derringer died Monday evening in Ormond Beach, Fl. No cause of death was announced although Derringer had been in ill health in recent months; he was 77.
The first concert I ever went to was a DAY ON THE GREEN event in 1977. Headlining was Judas Priest, Rick Derringer and Led Zeppelin in that order. Rest in Peace guitar man.

Pretty good first concert, I’ll say; my first one was Johnny Winter and Mountain (and Johnny was the better act, surprisingly).
Wow, though, I didn’t realize that Rick was in the McCoys, even though I love the Sloopy song. The guy next door my freshman year at Ursinus College had Rick’s All American Boy album, and I heard Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo blasting frequently (though, good song and a good memory). Sad news, RIP.

He also spoofed Eddie Van Halen’s guitar riff on “Weird Al” Yankovic “Eat it”

No way! Way! That was him? I absolutely love that video, especially when the amp explodes at the end of the guitar solo. I had no idea that was Rick Derringer playing. Good stuff.
