I'm really happy I was born Gen X. Kids today call us "Boomers" (incorrectly), but what do they know? Like Bob Seger said, "Today's music ain't got the same soul."

Here's a little heads up for EVysther and any other Metal heads here who might not be aware of them: check out a band called Primal Fear. If you like Judas Priest and Accept, you will not be disappointed. They've been around since '98 - I don't know how the hell I missed them, but I just discovered them a few years ago. I've been listening to almost nothing else since. \m/

KISS was hit or miss for me. I loved their select discography but not all of it. 80’s KISS was up there until my renaissance period in music and I started listening to the classics again but I leaned heavier towards Gene’s lead vocals there so it was “Deuce”, “I Love it Loud”, “Detroit Rock City”, “God of Thunder”, “War Machine” etc. I still think “Unholy” was peak KISS and had they played more into that vein they would have had more mainstream success with fans of other segments of the metal genre.

I was BARELY gen x due to my weird birth year (1978) so I somehow managed to grow up through both the 80’s AND 90’s and my younger adult life was the late 90’s and early 2000’s so my musical tastes are a bit more diverse. It wasn’t often you would hear Ludacris’ “Disturbing the Peace” or Lil Jon “I Don’t Give a Fuck” slamming in my car followed up by “Peace Sells” or “Hanger 18” by Megadeth LOL

There was some Nu Metal mixed in but not a lot. Slipknot mostly and the first few albums by Mudvayne and SOAD. Mostly Tool. Hardcore and metalcore mostly supplemented my metal fix in the 2000’s so it was Shadows Fall, All the Remains, Killswitch, Hatebreed, Stick to Your Guns, and Throwdown

Also, if any of you Metalheads haven’t tuned in, KK's Priest last album is worth the listen

I saw Dream Theater live on stage for the first time just a few months back. What an amazing band.

You sound a lot like me. :D I've got everything in my playlist from Movie OST's to Country to Rock to even a little rap. It you hit shuffle on my playlist you'd get Chris Ledoux, AC/DC, the theme from Star trek First Contact, Eminem, Garth Brooks, Mearl Haggard, then Theme From Jurassic Park followed by Guns N' Roses, Limp Biscuit......just depends on what mood I''m in really. :D

This screenshot of a tiny piece of my digital collection might give an idea of my range (sold my LPs and CDs long ago)..... From Mott the Hoople to Mountain Goats to Mozart to Mungo , from Nat King Cole to Natalie Merchant. My favorite concert to date was Pink Floyd in 1994 but my last one was Metallica in June and I had a great time there too (except for the $60 parking fee ;) )

Whatever music makes me feel good, I accept. There are tunes out there I can pass on but most is worthy to me. Like these.

The best concert I ever went to, and possible the best ever. (the link leads to the full awesome concert but this is just as favorite clip from it.)

Never been a huge Metallic fan, but I was invited to the concert and had a great time. They're gotten better over time. This is from the Santa Clara show I went to.

Sweet Dione carried me away every time.

And finally, a shame the incredible 1987 reunion tour is not on video when they had 4 drum kits on stage, but this is just as good. Listen to the music everyone.

I know I am gonna get some looks here but Pink Floyd was never my jam. Don't ask me why. Like, I like a few songs but otherwise, I never felt their stuff as I did other acts like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Stones or Black Sabbath. I did give it a shot when I saw Roger Waters live and I liked it but can't say with all honestly I loved it. The only psychedelic stuff I really sunk my teeth into was Tool or George Clinton (who was hella fun live!). I also was never all that into Aerosmith either. Just some things my mom dug just didn't stick I guess. lol

Probably THE best show I saw I would have to say was a toss between my very first live concert experience which was Metallica with Guns n Roses tied with Styx and REO Speedwagon and .38 Special because they both hold sentimental value and honestly they were all fantastic live. I still will say the music festival scene was where it was at though. Ozzfest, The River Rave, Lollapalooza and Locobazooka all were amazing things this new generation will never understand or experience, sadly like Woodstock was for me. sigh

Dude, I was using my buddy's studio for a photoshoot and because we were sharing the space, he was DJ and forced me to listen to that. "China Grove" absolutely fucks and all but you have any idea how hard it is to get a 25 year old model in "the zone" to pose listening to "Black Water" or "What a Fool Believes"?

Yea, doesn't sound like a winning mix. Hehe

We generally roll with a cicada background track (which was louder than normal this year). 8-)

No worries. I have a friend who is a huge Neil Young fan with his own tribute band and he loves Guns & Roses but he doesn't like the Doobie Brothers. I think he was exposed to the Michael McDonald version first which is not his style. We all have our own tastes in what we like. :)

The newest song that I added to my collection is "MY NAME IS RUIN" by the well-known Gary Numan who had a New Wave hit song in the late 1970's (CARS). He came out with a new hit around 2017 and I only discovered it a month ago. His own daughter Persia performs with him (that must feel awesome to be able to do that!).

I love their stuff when I am feeling nerdy and wanna geek out over polyrhythms. Problem with Dream Theater and other prog metal bands is the arrangements are typically too complex for the casual listener to enjoy so getting all the people in the room to enjoy it is a bit of a challenge. Aquiles Priester has been a lil obsession of mine since I saw him playing with W.A.S.P. The man is a beast and worthy of listening to his other works including Dragonforce. :)
