What taste in music do y'all have?

No political or religious topics please. Otherwise, anything goes, as long as we treat each other with respect.

I agree on the music of '92 - Sabbath's Dehumanizer we've already discussed, Pantera, Alice were big on my radar as well - Maiden? Fear of the Dark was spotty, but a vast improvement on No Prayer for the Dying...Megdeath's Countdown was a *remarkable* album - very sophisticated and ultra-tight, playing-wise, it definitely set a bar in terms of precision....

Overall, I ignored the Grunge thing...Nirvana/Soundgarden/Pearl Jam, etc. were EVERYWHERE, but it really didn't affect me that much, but I had soft spot for Temple of the Dog's Hunger Strike...a lot of big albums from '91 were still prowling around - Metallica/Ozzy/Skid Row....jeez, how time flies...

Bruh, Dave Mustaine needs to give Nick Menza and Marty Friedman MVP awards for Countdown and Youthanasia because the refinement was all them I feel. Like Dave is talented but I think both Marty and Nick both brought a lot of focus to their overall sound.

Agree that Maiden’s FotD album wasn’t their highest effort but considering that was more their experimental era, I would say it was an amazing effort. I didn’t hate “No Prayer for the Dying” but there were some dogs on there. “Bring Your Daughter…”, “Public Enema #1”, and “Fates Warning” would be my picks off that one. The rest I largely forgotten lol

Hot take: I hated Nirvana. Just was never a fan and never understood the appeal. Even though Ioved punk like Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, and Sick of it All, I just never thought they ever qualified. Only “Grunge” I enjoyed was AIC or at the most, Soundgarden. Candlebox was another that hit all the right notes for me but sadly, I don’t think they ever got past their first album.

I saw Dream Theater live on stage for the first time just a few months back. What an amazing band.

I love their stuff when I am feeling nerdy and wanna geek out over polyrhythms. Problem with Dream Theater and other prog metal bands is the arrangements are typically too complex for the casual listener to enjoy so getting all the people in the room to enjoy it is a bit of a challenge. Aquiles Priester has been a lil obsession of mine since I saw him playing with W.A.S.P. The man is a beast and worthy of listening to his other works including Dragonforce. :)

Funny. I saw Dragonforce on the same day. They and Dream Theater both performed at Nova Rock.
Visit me at the Great Swamp, but watch your step on the way there!

One thing I noticed when MTV became a thing was that I enjoyed watching live performances much more than I did cute or clever music videos. A few of my favorite all-acoustic performances here,"unplugged if you will.

The Clap - Steve Howe (YES)

Mandolin Wind - Rod Stewart / Ron Wood (formerly of Faces)

Life is a Long Song - Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) + a stringed quartet

To be honest, if you look at all the music videos produced in the 80’s, a good majority of them SUUUUCKED. I mean cheesy as they come but that was the 80’s so yeah, live performances were the cake then. Among my faves was some of the live stuff from Headbangers ball and late night TV. I remember geeking out over any live performance aired then and I swear the production value was 100x better than anything produced today.

Some of my faves looking back:

Ozzy Osbourne “Shot in the Dark” Peace Music Festival, Moscow 1992

Metallica “For Whom the Bell Tolls” Monsters of Rock, Moscow 1991

Def Leppard “Bringing on the Heartbreak” 1988 featuring one of the last few recorded appearances of Steve Clark. I have always been enamored by Clark and Collen’s playing and ability to create any atmosphere

Dio “Sacred Heart” 1985

W.A.S.P 1984

Since we're talking Metal, here's a documentary on my fave Sabbs album with Ozzy, Volume 4 - very concise, researched and well produced...
