They needed some of us to show 'em how to move in deep mud! Their clothing is way too heavy to try to go that far out on the mudflats. They shouldn't be trying to walk, they need some sort of board to put in front of them and a vehicle with a winch to pull them back across the top of the mud once they get to where they're try to go. The could also just float out there in an inflatable raft when the tide is in, anchor allowing the raft to settle at the site, do their work from inside the raft and wait for the tide to come back in and float the raft.
