And who says you need a pool of deep mud or a quicksand pit to drown a young woman in?

A coffin will do the job nicely.

A super rare still shot from the unfinished and unreleased RKO Pictures film 'King Kong Returns' has recently come to light. This movie was scheduled to be released in 1935, with the actress Fay Wray reprising her role as Ann Darrow. The script of this film however, has sadly been lost. So it remains a mystery why she appears tightly bound, gagged and sinking in jungle quicksand, somewhere on Skull Island.

Another puzzling aspect of this image is how it deviates significantly from the Hollywood norms of that time. Specifically, whenever actresses were shown tied up the ropework was usually confined to their wrists. But the still below shows Wray in severe and tight rope bondage that looks to be the work an expert. If so, then she would have been genuinely helpless, unable to escape and need assistance to get out of it.

Which therefore prompts a difficult question.

Does the shot show Wray acting the part of a helpless damsel in distress for the camera - or is there an element of real fear on the actress' face?

And now a short message from this forum's resident quicksand-obsessed psychopathic killer.

Kalton Carroll Lahue is the acknowledged authority on the history of Hollywood from the 30s to the 70s, especially B-movies, thrillers, adventure films and such like. He has authored such books as Continued Next Week : The History of the Moving Picture Serial, Ladies In Distress, Gentlemen To The Rescue : Heroes of the Silent Screen and others.

He has publicly recently revealed some recently-discovered stills from a previously unknown Republic Pictures production from 1965, when that studio was on a downward spiral and faced with severe financial problems. The name of the movie is not known but using his extensive knowledge and many contacts Kalton has been able to identify two of the three starlets seen in these stills.

These nine images are preliminary black and white shots, all seemingly taken on the same set, presumably around the same time. It is believed that the set was recycled from the 1955 Republic serial, Panther Girl of the Kongo.

Mimi Rose (real name Maeve Anne Benedick) was contracted to Republic between 1963 and 65, playing non-speaking glamour and dancing roles. There are no other records of her working in the film or entertainment industries after that and she disappears out of the public eye.

Four still shots show her in what appears to the diamond mine set of the Panther Girl serial, but helplessly bound, gagged, trapped and endangered by rising mud.

One shot shows a bound, gagged and blindfolded blonde actress either sinking in deep mud on that set or in peril from rising mud. But because her face is mostly obscured, her identity remains unknown.

Kay Preston (real name Katherine Preston) was a glamour and cheesecake model who made just one foray into the movie industry, signing for Republic in 1965 and seemingly only appearing in the stills of this unknown movie. She returned to modelling and pursued this career until 1971 before moving to Canada.

She and Mimi Rose were filmed on the same set, playing the roles of classic damsels-in-distress, awaiting their timely rescue by a hero. Kalton says that there are unconfirmed rumours that in this production, while both heroines were saved from the rising mud, the evil villainess (unknown actress) falls into the mud-filled mineshaft and sinks in it to her doom.

Our thanks go out to Mr. Lahue for bringing these dusty gems to light and also for his diligent research about them.

Thanks Max, :D

I'm pleased to report that Kalton C. Lahue (a real person, btw) is sure to find more examples of lost cinema stills from the good ole days of Hollywood glamour-and-peril. There's probably some Republic Pictures serials that never made it to the mainstream movie houses or did so and were subsequently misplaced and fell out of circulation. Mr. Lahue can sniff them out like a bloodhound on a scent trail!

;)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for full transparency and the truth.

Even as a spotty teenager I knew there was something about seeing bound and gagged women in peril that attracted me. Back then the BBC went through a phase of screening old Republic serials on afternoon tv and I happened to catch Daredevils of The Red Circle and King of the Rocket Men. I was hooked. So I went to my local library, did some research and found out someone (a certain Mr. Lahue) who had written books about screen heroines in distress and peril.

https://www.abebooks.co.uk/Gentlemen-Re ... 5863666/bd
https://www.abebooks.co.uk/Ladies-Distr ... 4873640/bd

What better way of adding a touch of realism to our quicksand/mud fantasies than by incorporating a real Hollywood historian and by linking the images to a real Republic serial? As mentioned above, from time to time Kalton will be gracing this forum with his finds. So, you know what that means, don't you Max?

TUNE IN NEXT WEEK FOR ANOTHER EXCITING ADVENTURE !

But in the meantime, let us return to events deep underground in Redjak's secret lair.

Just today I noticed that, without thinking about it or planning it, I'd accumulated a fair number of images on a particular theme. In this case, helpless ladies in what's known as a standing tie or a pole tie, trapped in Redjak's drowning chambers and in terrible danger of being overwhelmed by the rising mud. The fact that I've just posted a batch of B&W images of the same thing yesterday suggests that, unbeknown to my conscious mind, my subconscious is steering me to do this. To avoid posting too much of the same thing I'll post something different in the coming days.

My Pending folder has a goodly number large, very large and enormously busty women in tight bondage and gaggage, sunk up to their chests in deadly quicksand. So that seems like a good idea. But until then...
