Big Boy Comes To Town......

Union Pacific "Big Boy" 1440 running side by side with Reading Blue Mountain "Northern" 2102 into Jim Thorpe PA. Gonna get to check them out tonight after things calm down and all the Tourists go to bed lol.

Big Boy is the only running example of the biggest Steam Locomotive ever built, 4-8-8-4, UP restored it to running condition as part of their Heritage fleet. She doesn't roll coal anymore, they switched her over to fuel oil to make her a little more efficient, but still 386 tons of rolling history. 8-)

Just caught this post for some reason. I would have loved to see this in person. You are a lucky man. Very cool.

I have never seen the Big Boy, but when I was little my paternal grandparents house was bordered by the Boston and Maine main line. Up until the are of 9 or 10 there were frequent trans powered by steam I could watch from a distance of perhaps 25 feet.
