I tried bushwhacking through the woods to get to a spot I found on google maps today. It was only a half mile in and didn't look all that bad. Boy was I wrong. There was no path and I had to push my way through half a mile of knee deep swamp completely overgrown with waist high saw grass and brier bushes. After spending 45 minutes battling with the tearing grass, I get to my destination to find it completely submerged in a foot of water . I try paddling around in the water to test the mud underneath and end up puncturing my foot on a submerged stick! Disheartened, I set out to back to the car across the saw grass swamp, getting even more cut up along the way. I guess the only way to find new spots is to go out and put your eyes on them. This time I struck out.

By the way, does anybody know a good remedy for saw grass burn? My knees and ankles are killing me.

Sorry it didn't work out but good effort anyway.

I use neosporin after a good wash with soap and water for cuts and scrapes. How deep was the puncture?

I'm still recovering from an outing from last Sunday where I went through about a football field's worth of that sawgrass stuff. And the clip is under ten minutes long.

After about two days it didn't hurt any more...it only looked awful...if that is any comfort.

Sorry to hear you struck out . Seeing a doctor about that cut is a good idea. 1/2" deep is pretty serious in my book.

I can walk on my foot again. The majority of the swelling has gone down along with most of the pain.

Two weeks now since your misadventure, so you're either starting to heal nicely or you're hating life--hopefully, it's the former. You can't undo a deep cut or puncture wound, but the absolute first order of business is to get it scrupulously clean. Excessive swelling, redness and tenderness beyond the immediate area of the wound are red flags, so you'll want to see a medical professional ASAP if that happens. It's not a terrible idea in any case, and neither is getting a tetanus booster. As long as you aren't sliced open in any highly unusual places, no one is going to care much how it happened, and these things are much easier to treat before things start going bad!

It's all better now. All the swelling is gone and there is only a small scab line where the injury occurred.
