This may be a tough one... another piece of qs fiction from the community.
I can't remember who wrote it, or its title, but the climax of the story has the tale's narrator recalling how a woman in fancy dress wades out into quicksand deliberately and vanishes, because of a bad love affair. Alas, that's all I recall of it.

Re: Seeking qs story
sounds like the BBC version of the old victorian novel "The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins; it was a rather plain parlourmaid doing herself in as a reaction to an unjustified accusation of theft resulting in her dismissal.
"Aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh! Quicksand! I'm sinking! I'll go straight to the bottom of.......GLURP!"
(a month later)
"Ugh! Yukkkh! Ptui! I'm out of it! I'm free! Not even quicksand can defeat the power of.....the Eye of Zoltec!"

Re: Seeking qs story
Maybe...
The version I'm thinking of was a qs fic written by a member of the community... the woman decides to let the quicksand take her because her lover rejected her, or cheated or something, and you get the impression she gets off on it as she slips under, talking to the witness during this.
That TV version of The Moonstone scene is awesome, BTW...

I scratched out a story once that I can't even recall the title of - "Witness"? Woman get's out of boyfriends car, blunders into quicksand, sinks willingly if drunkenly, is witnessed by a girl swimming, becomes a metaphor for life. Was that it?
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

That does sound like it.... yes. It has been so long since I read it, my brain box can't get a proper fix on it. I seem to recall the woman giving out advice to her witness before disappearing.

Re: Seeking qs story
Think I found it. But one character can't come to this forum because she has to age a bit.
Actually, I found two. There was a sequel.
Man, that ol' Usenet alt-wet-messy-sex-whatever-it-was archive thingy is getting HARD to access!
With permission of the author (Duncan) I can send them to PM2K. And maybe, Duncan, you too? You did pretty good at those short little sinking tales!

If you could, I'd be grateful. But only if everyone else is okay with it.

Thanks Nessie. I think you could get away with posting both since the character in question isn't really an active participant. I can't really recall exactly what I wrote but I'll watch myself as moderator.

Witness for life, I remember that story, one of my favorites along with another, Sheena's bonds. Would love to find both those stories again!

Re: Seeking qs story
I've actually never heard of this story, but from your descriptions, it sounds amazing. If for some reason you can't post, could you send it my way directly? Would be infinitely appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.
