And now a TV Dad

Postby Robert » Tue Oct 19, 2010 2:57 pm

Tom Bosley has left us. He takes his place as another fine example of a Dad.

Rest well and thanks Tom.

Ah, man. Really enjoyed him on Happy Days. Very sad.

Best wishes, Tom, on your new adventure, and best wishes to his family and friends.

Tom Bosley was the sort of fellow where, the minute you saw him, you knew he had a big heart. It was hard not to like him.

I often thought that, if they ever did a remake of "It's a Wonderful Life," Bosley would've been my first choice to play Clarence, George Bailey's guardian angel. He had just the right qualities for the role.

Bosley was never a leading man. However, his many personal qualities were such that he was hardly ever out of work. That's rare for any performer.

So long, Tom. We'll miss you. We're better for having known you.

I think Tom tended to be underestimated as an actor... he made it look too easy.

Who can forget his subtle, yet heartrending performance as a loser in the pilot episode (later released as a TV movie) for 1969's Night Gallery, as the man who gives up his sight for Joan Crawford to pay off gambling debts? Hard to watch without misting up.

For animation fans, he also provided the voice of the dad in Wait Until Your Father Comes Home, television's first prime time animated series since the Flintstones and 15 years before The Simpsons. And there's the Father Dowling Mysteries too...

RIP, Mr. C.... :(

I still remember the Happy Days episode where Richie (Ron Howard) missed the last free throw and lost the HS basketball game. He is in the gym hours later, in the dark, reliving the shot. His dad (Tom Bosley) comes over and gives him a comforting talk. When they walk away, Tom puts his arm over Ron's shoulder, and like in the then current commercial, says, "Here, have a Live Saver." Hilarious, but touching and still well played. He was good in Murder She Wrote, as well.

Rest well, Tom.
