Local news story involving quicksand...

Postby Mudbogz » Tue Dec 07, 2010 4:09 am

Here is a new story I found on the local news website.

http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/news/local_news ... icksand%27

It seems two young boys were sledding and found themselves in deep trouble when they wound up in several feet of silt that had been dredged up from a nearby pond. It wound up being a family affair as mom raced in to save them and got stuck. Dad to the rescue however as cooler head prevailed and he thought out the problem before making his move. All were pulled free before the arrival of the fire rescue guys.

Not exactly the time of year you want to go bogging, eh?

Kind of odd that Dad held back... maybe seeing his wife get sucked gave him that moment of pause...

That made me think of a ad for a comic book I saw some time ago (can't remember the name of it sorry) but it was a group of young people (around 20ish I think (but it was a cartoon ad so hard to tell the age)) and they had driven in some snow and got stuck. One guy was saying "What do you mean "We're sinking and who ever heard of QUICKSNOW"" (and yes there were a couple of gals in the car too.
Also these kids in the news story may have come up with a new sport, bogging through a bog.

"QUICKSNOW"? Sounds like an old Pete Boggs cartoon.....
"I think Special Patrol Group is a silly name for a hamster".
"Well I'll change it then. I'll call it Cliff Richard...Aaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh!"

Hello All:

Some longer updates have been uploaded.

Having had a surprising (and unpleasant) experience
with some *very* cold spring-fed quicksand in August,
I know that cold muck is to be avoided.
