An interesting game show out of Japan? Can't say I'm surprised.
Heard some talk about the potential of a "distress" based game show here in the states? Well, I can't think of anything quite on the same bend of the little show we've been watching in this thread, but...
Back in fall of 2008, there was a show on SyFy (then SciFi?) called Estate of Panic. Basically contestants entered into rooms loaded with cash while the room was becoming uninhabitable. No real qs or mud moments in there, but I was hopeful. A few of the challenges that took place out in the "sewers" outside got a little muddy, but not that much. A few other fetishistic moments in there I'm sure, but nothing that lifts my luggage.
The closest they came to the sinking theme, I think, was the kitchen. Most rooms had multiple hazards (shifting walls, blown water mains, dropping ceilings, etc.), but the kitchen, just one; The floor. The host warned the contestants "Keep moving." Turns out the floor was flooded with a few inches (4-6) of non-Newtonian substance, cornstarch and water most likely. A few people figured out to keep moving, one woman got stuck.
Anyway, my two cents. Japanese game shows are catching on over here (Hole In The Wall, Wipeout), so maybe it's got a shot.

Fred - I am an amateur - I defer to your expertise in this area. These are just such cool videos that it would be a kick to duplicate them somehow.

Discussing doing so would be a topic best addressed in the producer-specific forums.

What really made this work for me... beyond the cuteness of the contestants, of course, is their reactions to the situation. Really adds a lot to it, I think...

Ironic that I was just mentioning in another thread what a compliment it was to a scene that generaties multiple "discoveries" like some recent ones. Better that than going unmentioned.

It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.
