Great Siberian mud

There are no damsels in distress (hence "Off Topic"), but there is a lot of great mud of different consistency, deep, and potentially bottomless. Not very cold, but not quite comfortable also.

Siberia, Russia. Where gas and oil come from. Heavy trucks, tracked tractors, cross-country vehicles. And hard work. In Winter - snow and frost, and in Summer... Mud, of course!

It's funny at about 7:00 mark you see the guy trying to get unstuck it appears and he's bare foot. He must have enough experience to know not to get into that mess with shoes on, or worse work boots. Cool link, thanks for posting

O_O Man, those Russians are tough. And single-minded. But I do question their judgement. Geez, I understand that Russia doesn't have paved roads as a matter of National Defense policy, but. . .

Us Americans have spent the last 250 years or more hauling gravel to improve dirt roads, then paving the major roads, then building interstate highways. A hundred years ago, somebody would lay a cheap narrow-gauge railroad into a rich oilfield, valuable stand of timber, iron mine, etc. When that played out, they'd pull up the tracks and go on to the next job.

I would add more! In Soviet Union they designed a special steel covering for quick construction of airfields for fighters. It was a standard perforated sheet of steel, corrugated, with special shape of edges that gave a possibility to easily (manually) attach sheets to each other. Being put together on a smooth surface (ground, grass, or even sand) they formed a solid covering of any area.

All the fences in many miles around airbases are constructed of those sheets which were stolen by sergeants and sold to civilians living in the neighborhood...

If we are on the subject of Russia, the splendid scene in THE DAWNS ARE QUIET HERE is somewhere in the huge movie upload on YouTube (16 parts) and I will go crazy trying to find it. Which part specifically and what time in the part. This is an endless search. Anybody have luck?

Wow. While I appreciate you guys posting this link (Bart's post just above this one) I couldn't actually watch. The girl who is crossing the swamp looks FAR too much like a niece of mine, which kinda takes all the fun out of watching.

The relation is quite dim. The action in "Dawns are Quiet Here" takes place in a few thousand miles from Siberia, and in all the previous cases of posting the scene of interest here or on DeepSinking it hasn't been considered as off-topic, so I suggest it would be more appropriate in the "Nuggets" section.
