Funnily enough I was on holiday at Burnham in the summer of 2006 - three months or so after the car got abandoned. It was still there: possibly it still is.

Though there is a wide sandy bit popular with holidaymakers, down by the waterline Burnham beach is indeed a pretty sticky spot. A bit too public for those of us who might like to undulge in such things. There is a coastguard car that patrols up and down the beach, giving out loudhailer warnings to those who stray too close to the nasty bits.

OMG! The title of the article make me mad! Normally I'm no aggressive person, but the journalists make me wish a public execution of some of those bullshit writers!

The cost of saving seven bikini-clad teenage netballers who got stuck in the mud at a Somerset beach was more than £10,000 rescuers have said.

I hope, we all remember that story with "seven bikini-clad girls" which was widely discussed at Deep Sinking (as I remember) right after all that happened. What could be concluded from all the articles and photos, was:
Seven girls in bikinis, who proved to be a netball team, were wading across the mudflats, and "temporarily experienced difficulties". Absolutely not clear, was it an accident or they willingly took the mudbath As I can judge by the photos, one of the girls was chest-deep in mud, and two or three other girls were up to the hips in the stuff. The alarm was sounded by a passer-by who noticed the girls in the mud. As usually, they sent a legion of rescuers, including a helicopter, a hovercraft, and several lifeboats... only to find the girls peacefully walking back to the shore. The girls were quite surprised when they were jawed by the rescuers. THEY WEREN'T RESCUED! THEY DIDN'T NEED ANY EXTERNAL HELP! THEY DIDN'T CALL FOR THE RESCUE! (In the worst case, one girl was rescued by her friends, but this was not proven) If the "rescue" turned to be too expensive, it's the fault of the rescuers themselves.

I have to disagree. It really is extremely dangerous out there, people have died on those sands. In that situation you can't be too careful, after all if the girls died then the headline would revolve around not wanting to pay £10,000 to save 7 lives.

As I said above, one girl was chest-deep in mud, and two or three to their hips in it. I wonder, is that extremely fat one a netball player too?

Awsome pic Billie. Nice find. Wonder if there's anymore of them actually IN the quicksand.
Also I would say the gal you mentioned was part of the gals in it since the story said there were 7 gals in it and there's 7 in the pic.
