To Scream or Not to Scream

I remember being young and seeing a late night Hammer horror flick with Barbara Steele seriously bound to a post and screaming her lungs out. She was great at it too. I loved the feeling I got from that and the idea that this woman was so utterly helpless that the only option she had left was this primal noise making. A few years later I dated a "screamer" or two and I guess that completed the connection. Really enjoyed a good scream ever since. At least until...

Dakota Fanning in Spielberg's dreadful War of the World's remake. That little girl was the same age as my daughter and spent most of the movie screaming her brains out. She was really, really, good at it too. Nothing in a movie has unnerved me as much as that since I was about five.

Nowhere near as interested in screaming girls anymore.

The point of this whole preface is to ask how everyone else feels about a screaming victim as she's sucked under. Does it work for you? Is it a distraction? Does it appeal to you on a caveman level just as the quicksand probably does? Is whimpering better?

Depends on the scene, really. I think screaming is entirely appropriate for certain dramatic scenes, especially if it can be cut off in mid-note... but it would depend on the actress in question and whether they can carry it off. Bad screamers would be annoying, true, but a good one can add dimension and gravitas to a dramatic scene.

Other times, a whimper can be more effective. Or a happy sigh...

I'm not a fan of screaming ladies, especially when it comes to a melodramatic Quicksand Scene. Not too fond of whimpering, either.

I prefer some definance and determination in a gal when she's stuggling to get out of a sinky, sticky situation. I don't mind the eventual yelling for help, although it does get annoying if the gal begins screaming for help.

Put me in the category of one that hates screaming! I much prefer a lady that sinks under willingly than one that screams!

In the quicksand videos being made I prefer no screaming also. Panic and emotions can come out, a fear of the trap are great. Screaming or almost too real version of crying would be less erotic. Some girls pull this off so well. Acting as if they are going to meet their doom, yet not making us feel like she is being tortured. In a true situation it might be realistic. Just rather not see it most of the time.

So far this is good news since my actual sites won't support screaming.

The trouble with a model screaming at Poison Sumac Bog is that she might actually get help, which I won't want because she won't really need it. So I can't film this.

If she ends up needing help, I will help her. If she really gets too stuck, then, I guess (groan) that is what a cell phone and 911 are for.

I'm not a huge fan of screaming myself except I have watched, more than once, the screaming Mina clip that was posted here awhile back from "Jewel Of Doom". There is something about that scene that lets my brain both fantasize alongside her but it also is not too real for me. I couldn't enjoy the clip if I honestly believed that Mina was in danger.

I looked up Dakota Fanning on YouTube. Yup, that'd do it for me too. I am sure that if I watched that movie myself, I'd have an aversion to screaming for quite some time.

Mina Lee's screams as she goes under in Jewel of Doom, Paris in Butt first as she goes under and her screams are cut off by the muck!

I may be a sick fuck, but I'm not interested in QS or mud pleasure scenarios that much. For me, it's all about the drama, all about the fear. Being swallowed by something, especially an animal, is one of our deepest and most instinctual fears.

My ideal scene would be like the Vera Miles, Tarzan's Hidden Jungle scene, (except the girls must go under) where the girl steps in and is suddenly unable to move. At first, there is fear, but not panic, but as the seconds go by, and her body slowly sinks deeper, her fear grows and slowly turns to panic. As the girl sinks up to her shoulders and neck, she calls out for help. Not just "Help Help!" But "HEEEEEEELLLLLLP!" Long desperate cries for salvation. As she sinks to the point where she realizes that the end is only seconds away, civilization is cast aside and she abandons words. The only sounds now are long primal screams of pure fear and panic!

As she sinks, her head dips below the surface but the the mud does not cover her right away. For a few precious seconds, she can still scream until the mud flows over her face, cutting off her cries with the appropriate blubs and moans as the quicksand claims its latest prize!

But that's just me.

The examples you give are fitting and I am sure others like it when some actresses pull it off. Yes Paris does a good job, saving it for the end. Also does a well acting, and I don't mind it there. I have to download the Mina clip and see how she performs. I just remember one clip I bought where she is screaming way too much, around waist deep. Just ruined the vid for me. At the end, when done right I can live with it sometimes. Of course it makes sense if it was real, screaming as the time comes. Just doesn't work for some models/scenes. Just my opinion.
