So many classics... quite the legacy of film to leave behind. Fail Safe is a personal favorite of mine.

Two or three, even, of your listed movies are in my top 20 all time. I think 3: Twelve Angry Men (you don't really mean that you'd kill him - do you?): The Verdict: "You are the law - not the judge not the lawyers ... Your honor, are we bound by the law - can we award more than the plaintiff is asking for?" Fail Safe: "The Matador ... the Matador." " The President's wife is shopping in New York - does he know? ........ "He knows.' The Fail Safe book is better, but not by much - kind of like the Godfather - the movie is almost as good as the novel, because of the acting and direction.

Seriously, Twelve Angry Men is one of the tightest moves ever filmed. It sticks to the Greek rules of "real time" theater, and the cast: E.G Marshall, Jack Warden, Henry Fonda, Jack Klugman, and on and on - simply outstanding. A rel memory.

Also, who can forget "Dog Day Afternoon?" "ATTICA ... ATTICA ...." "Do you want to go to a foreign country?' "Yes." "Where?" "WYOMING!"

'Network' contained one of my all-time favorite lines from the movies:

"I'M MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!!"

The only one that I liked better than that one was in the Paul Newman movie, 'Cool Hand Luke:' "What we have here is failure to communicate."

He was indeed a great writer and film director and Hollywood is both richer due to his body of work and poorer in his passing.

Yes, some of those movies are familiar, particularly Fail Safe... that's my personal favorite... and to think it came out after Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (and, if you watch the special features on the DVD you'll understand why).

They don't make dorectors or movies like that any more. Best wishes to Mr. Lumet on his new adventures, and best wishes to his family and friends.
