David Bowie did a song in 71' called Quicksand...where he refers to the topic at hand

I'm closer to the Golden Dawn
Immersed in Crowley's uniform
Of imagery
I'm living in a silent film
Portraying
Himmler's sacred realm
Of dream reality
I'm frightened by the total goal
Drawing to the ragged hole
And I ain't got the power anymore
No I ain't got the power anymore

I'm the twisted name
on Garbo's eyes
Living proof of
Churchill's lies
I'm destiny
I'm torn between the light and dark
Where others see their targets
Divine symmetry
Should I kiss the viper's fang
Or herald loud
the death of Man
I'm sinking in the quicksand
of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore
And I was saved…I was saved by a flying wild-man in a loincloth…- Jane

Lordy showing my age here...for those that have seen This is Spinal tap a 1984 flick..the tune Big Bottom...I don't think any explainations are needed here....

The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'
That's what I said
The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand
Or so I have read

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I'd like to sink her with my pink torpedo
And I was saved…I was saved by a flying wild-man in a loincloth…- Jane

Tool does a tune called Swamp Song...it's on their album Undertow

My warning meant nothing.
You're dancing in quicksand.
Why don't you watch where you're wandering?
Why don't you watch where you're stumbling?
You're wading knee deep and going in.
And you may never come back again.

This bog is thick and easy to get lost in
when you're a stupid,dumb ass, beligerant f*cker.

I hope it sucks you down.

Wander in and wandering.
Noone even invited you in.
But still you stumble in stumbling.
So suffocate
or get out while you can.

Noone told you to come.

I hope it sucks you down.

Wander in and wandering.
No one even invited you in.
But still you stumble in,
suffocate, so suffocate,
why don't you geeeeet awayyyy?
Wander in and wandering.
No one even invited you in.
But still you stumble in,
suffocate, so suffocate,
why don't you geeeeeet oooout while you can?

No one told you to coooooooooooooome!
And I was saved…I was saved by a flying wild-man in a loincloth…- Jane

*smiles* I agree that is a nice one there.

Okay another not as wonderous at that but...fits the topic...

"Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God's children. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood."

Martin Luther King- (from his 'I had a dream' speech)

I have always been a huge fan of William Shakespeare and he used the word quicksand as a metaphore in Henry VI Part 3, 5.4

And what is Edward, but a ruthless sea?
What Clarence, but a quicksand of deceit?
And Richard, but a ragged fatal rock?
And I was saved…I was saved by a flying wild-man in a loincloth…- Jane

Also there's a TV show California Dreams. In one episode they preformed a song called Castles on Quicksand.

In which Brinke Stevens makes a brief appearance as a girlfriend. 8-)
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

To survive today, you have to be able to walk on quicksand and dance with electrons.- Frank Odgen
