Rio Grande quicksand (Updated with screen caps)

Postby quicksander_2000 » Mon Aug 15, 2011 8:48 am

Finally found some New Mexico quicksand in the Rio Grande...Where I was traveling the river was basically dried up, and there was a long exposed patch of quicksand by the bank that was under tree cover. I got to explore it a little but nothing was more than upper thigh deep. It was smooth and creamy...creamier than the 588 claypit I think. Little did I know that as I was leaving there was a GIANT field of it on the other side of the bridge. I will definitely have to plan a summer road trip there. It was awesome. If I can ever render the video and slice it up I'll post it.

Ah, the memories this brings back! I spent many years playing in the Rio Grande mud back in the early 80's. Some of my favourite places were near Mesquite and just SE of Hatch.

In fact, the only place I ever got stuck and needed help getting out of was at the spot near Mesquite.

Just passed by this general area and put my waverunner in on that lake just below Elephant Butte Lake. Both had some nice bottomless mud but the smaller lake to the south was really nice...
