Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald

On this day, November 10th 1975 the Edmund Fitzgerald was lost along with her 29 crew members.

Blowing a gale tonight too out on the big lake, few ships that are underway are taking the north shore routing - similar to the Fitz's last trip

I hadn't thought about this for a long time until recently. I went to run a half-marathon and the last song I heard before the race began was, you guessed it, Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Not exactly a tune you want to carry in your head while trying to remain motivated for a two hour run. Nevertheless it bears recalling.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Glad I home this time of year anyways, generally just miserable out there. Not a big storm, trending down now and until next blow Mon-Tue. Although it is worth noting that the Big Paul (Paul R Tregurtha) is also taking the north shore, so there's some snotty weather yet

Live Ships AIS is not a bad site for tracking, although there are gaps,its pretty good
