Another from our Obituary Service

Postby Lomax » Wed Dec 07, 2011 1:38 pm

The death has been announced of Harry Morgan. A character actor for decades, he hit fame late in life as Colonel Sherman Potter in M*A*S*H (a performance based, I've always thought, on his role as the Sherriff in The Shootist, John Wayne's last film). Trivia - the painings in Potter's office were done my Morgan himself.

Requiescat in pace.

Rest well Harry, and Thanks!

Sad news. I really enjoyed watching him do his thing on TV. He was certainly perform the role of Colonel Sherman Potter on M*A*S*H in outstanding fashion.

Best wishes, Harry on your new adventure!

Sad to hear. I grew up watching him on M.A.S.H but also enjoyed getting to see him on Dragnet later on Nick at Nite.

A great actor who had a long and distinguished career in both TV and the movies. For those who only know Mr. Morgan in MASH, I urge you to check out some of his film roles in The Oxbow Incident, High Noon, The Shootist etc. Another who made acting look easy.

RIP Harry. Thanks for leaving behind such a legacy. :)

I've always had this fascination with the "little people", the character actors of Hollywood. Harry Morgan was one of those faces that appeared constantly in movies and television for decades. He acted with everyone in Hollywood but I always thought of him as Jack Webb's partner Bill Gannon from Dragnet. He was the laid back family guy to Sgt. Friday's bachelor supercop. Great run and his work will still be showing for decades after a lot of current "stars" have been forgotten. 8-)

It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.
