That's nice, but it really doesn't have to do with QS in any way.
I always thought cinco de Mayo was just another excuse for college kids to get drunk.(They would refer to it as Cinco-De-Drinko)..so I did learn something though by your post. I thought it was some Mexican celebration where everyone gets drunk and celebrates the dead (wait a minute...that's dia del muerte)

And that's why he's posted it in "Off Topic."

It was a big day for both Mexico and really, North America as a whole. A rag tag army of Mexicans defeated Napolean's French at Pueblo and got the French out of North America for good.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

I prefer "Sinko de Mayo" to "Cinco de Mayo" but to each his own.

For those of us who work in the medical field...especially X-ray, CT scan (like me), or the emergency room, Cinco de Mayo combined with a full moon can spell disaster! Just last night, we had a gunshot wound, multiple altercations, a few drunks....you get the idea.

Also, and I was surprised that this wasn't mentioned in an off-topic thread, but May 4th was Star Wars day, brought about by the phrase "May the Fourth Be With You". Which makes Cinco de Mayo "Revenge of the Fifth".

You got that right, Duncan. For Mexicans, this marked the last time a European power tried to control Mexico. The Mexicans were outnumbered and outgunned, but they proved victorious. That's why this day is considered at least as important as Mexico's Independence Day in September.

There was a time when Mexico had real leaders, not the bunch of crooks we've seen in the last 75 years or so.
