LCS-1 Insurv Preview from Commander Sal
It's not as much as continuing to beat a dead horse, as continuing to administer the beatings until a bunch of boneheaded gits maybe gets it through their skulls that all the cute little buzzwords they pissing about with dont mean shit in the real world. Also, what moron EVER thought letting anyone associated with aviation try and design a ship? That idiocy btw, is continued in the DDG-1000 project, yet another brilliant scheme. Famous for having someone in the program actually ask if positive stability was reallly important to a warship......jesus wept

Re: LCS Follies Continue
The LCS concept itself is nonsense. What do you call an LCS that is brought up to what it should be? A frigate.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Undergunned, underarmored, undermanned. What could possibly go wrong? Hell, get the USS Slater (a surviving WWII Destroyer Escort) out of museum status and you'd have a better ship once you upgraded the radar etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Slater
Unfortunately, the Slater doesn't have a cloaking device like her infamous sister ship: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Experiment
Although in defense of the legend, the Cannon class DEs were diesel-electric drive, so they had tons of juice (6,000 horsepower hooked to big generators, 4 MW or so) available for high-energy experimentation.

I think I see where they're trying to go with this but it's not worth the money imho. Stop chasing the pirates, find out where their harbor is, and napalm it. Problem solved.

Clarence “Kelly” Johnson, head of Lockheed’s “Skunk Works”, had Fourteen Rules for Engineers.
Rule number 15 was never, never, even if your people are starving, work for the US Navy. His successors forgot that which led to the “stealth ship” fiasco.
