What very well-known mainstream movie contains a female quicksand scene in which the female character who goes under the quicksand is not actually scene doing so?

That is not the answer I had in mind although its possible. The "hound" scene is, in one version, so dark you can hardly see it but that is not really what I meant in the question.

I will add a hint. The movie in question is famous for its death scene. However, the death scene does not involve quicksand.

Another clue, albeit a tad cryptic: The female who sinks but is not seen doing so, goes under, stays under, but does not die in the quicksand.
