We had our storms yesterday. Looks like we here in VIrginia are in for several days of Sunny skies and very hot weather.

Here in Soggy BC, after coming out of a La Nina winter with a very large snowpack in the mountains, the snowmelt has resulted in rivers, streams and creeks flowing very high. The weather has been consistently cooler than normal for most of the spring, with only brief breaks to more normal weather, which slowed down the snowmelt in the higher alpine regions. Now, we had some warmer weather last week to increase the melting to swell the rivers/creeks/streams, followed by a cold low that has brought very heavy rains, causing surges of water on top of the already high flowing water. Worst case scenario! One place in the Shuswap received 3 months of rain in just a few days! Lots of flash floods! Highway 97a was washed out in two places, a parking lot was turned into rapids, Shuswap Lake is approaching record levels. Other lakes are getting high, and there is flooding along the Shuswap River and the Fraser River. Some creeks have changed their courses, washing away peoples property, as well as buildings! Places all over the Shuswap (mostly) and Okanagan regions, as well as the lower Fraser Valley, such as Hope, are getting floods. Some places are getting 40-year floods.

A meteorologist said that June is typically our "monsoon" season, with cold lows, but this year, he said that this year was like a monsoon season on steriods!
