I use Poser Pro 2012 myself, but if you're completely new to 3D animations, I'd probably try DAZ3D.

It's free, but limited. There are lots of models and add on features you can buy from DAZ or elsewhere.

Poser, both the Pro and non-Pro versions is more capable, but are more expensive. Either or could do most of what what you're looking for, but I think only the Pro version has the Face lab that allows you to bring in a front and side picture of a person and shape the head of the poser figure to make that face.
