MSC Flaminia Update: Blast Leaves Two Dead, Three Injured
And, yes, that really is the ship's name....
Considering how far out she is, I suspect it will be a burnt out hulk by the time any salvage units arrive on scene. MSC is a major outfit, their units regularly trade into Montreal container terminals

Re: Container Ship Fire in Mid-Atlantic
Etymological coincidences aside, the vessel was presumably named after the Via Flaminia - the ancient road from Rome to Rimini; which in turn was named after the consul Gaius Flaminius.
The Latin for fire, in case you're wondering, is incendia. A flame is ignis.

Update
Still afire but not a total loss yet. Cargo cooking off is predictable, but so far not to bad. The list is worrying, you could see it in the shots a couple days ago. Firefighting can do that, but its something else to be worried about. Wouldnt be the first time firefighting efforts sunk a ship

Sadly, the ships that burn are never carrying containers full of bacon.

No, but the salvage would look like ants raiding a picnic, so its probably for the best
