http://www.flickr.com/groups/704865@N21 ... 493055170/ From the boardwalk I traveled south, got onto Simmler Road and parked at the end of the pavement. The road is virtually impassable due to mud and standing water. To get to the blooms I walked the short distance along the road past the vernal pools and up the small hill. Caution: At this time the oversaturated sand around the pools to the north of the road is similar to quicksand and you can sink knee deep in one step. …Anyway….once I freed myself and retrieved my shoe I eased on up the road.***. If one Continues up the small incline one will crest the hill stumble upon a beautiful display of Coreopsis, Tidy Tips, Goldfields, Filaree, Owl’s Clover and Larkspur.

soda lake is also not to far from yhe mckittrick tar pit over the mountains across the county lines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McKittrick_Tar_Pits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYinkovxw_0 http://www.sjvgeology.org/geology/tarpits_geol.html http://www.sjvgeology.org/history/tarpits_hist.html
