I looked up some stats on this and found:
the overall population of people is 70 to 90 percent right-handed and 10 percent left-handed, with a small number truly ambidextrous.
The MAY be a slightly higher incidence of left-handedness among males than females.
The same breakdown occurs in chimpanzees. I found nothing about other ape species.
Any Left-Handed People out there?

Speaking of lefties try these tests to see if you're lefthandedness can figure out these pics in the link...

By the way the first pic on that page is a photo taken in Michigan and the dog is a dalmation. Years ago my dad picked up a book by Life Magzine that had photos in it and that happen to be one of them. I came across a book about lefties and it had that pic in it as well and right off the bat I reconized it. Surprisingly no one else in my family could make out the dalmation. (and the triangle test is a blast)

I spent quite a few years working in photo/graphic arts stores through high school and college. It was always interesting to see that many of my fellow employees were left handed. I was once tested as a very fast reader and told that I saw words as pictures instead of text. There are lots of little weirdnesses about lefties that may not be exclusive to them but certainly seem to predominate.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Ditto. I'm an avid reader but it's hard to keep me in material. I can usually finish a decent sized novel in 8-12 hours. Picture taking on the other hand (pun intended) is not one of my strong suits. I can usually photograph the broad side of a barn, but it helps if I'm INSIDE the barn hahaha.....

A natural rightie, as a teenager I began writing stories and drawing artwork. I absolutely loved it and I went through this paranoid phase where I worried about having an accident where my right hand would be cut off, and end both forever.
I spent a great deal of time writing my stories in a notebook with my left hand. It was very painful starting out, and the skill of "Leftie" never caught up completely with "Rightie" but after about a month, it did get pretty good and eventually I was assured that if I ever lost "Rightie", "Leftie" could take up the slack.
I had this gay female friend for a short while who was a talented artist, and she bragged to me that she could draw with both hands at once. I was, like, "No way. You're trying to put one over on me!" but when I actually tried it...I could do it.

I am also left-handed, and saw that dalmation right away, noticing its front end was the clearest, mostly the head and underside. That white triangle illusion in the other pic also really jumped out at me. It is as if my brain colors in the triangle in a slightly brighter shade of white from the surrounding area, which looks relatively greyer.
I sink, therefore I WAM!!!!

According to these tests, I'm left-handed. According to empirical evidence, I'm not. Obviously, I'm just weird.
And I've just remembered a quote I've always liked, from a Canadian politician, discussing the influence of socialism in that country; "In Canada, the left is more gauche than sinister."

I'm kinda weird on this one. I write left-handed and as a chef, I use my left hand to use a knife. But I throw both a ball and a frisbee right handed, my computer mouse is set up for a right hander. Does that count as ambidextrous?
