Now if your partner doesn't find that to be a libido-killer, she's been matching you drink for drink.

I don't get anything. I've already had enough.

I bet this thread is longer than you ever thought it would be.

I hope that all goes well for you in the future. Have fun with the moonshine...but be careful!

One of my grandfathers friends from way back used to run a still. You want to make sure you only sip that--start doing shooters and you're apt to wake up naked in the backyard wondering where you've been all week.

Waiting till you're married is a good idea for a girl.
That way instead of the dude dumping you and leaving you to take care of the kid,
You get to dump him and make him pay you $1100 a month for the next 16 years while he takes care of the kid tuesdays, thursdays and every other weekend.
Trust me, I know.
If the system had one neck,
You know I'd gladly break it.

^^If it makes you feel any better, the kid in that situation usually grows up resenting the parent they live with and you get them back with interest when they're 18. I had two friends growing up who were in situations like that and both of them moved in with dad the day they turned 18.

I'd rather get married and stay married, I dunno my parents both are still like they were when I was little, and they taught me that marriage was supposed to be " until death do us part"

I like that rule, but there's a lot of people who think otherwise.

I've known my wife since we were both five or six. We began dating seriously thirty years ago and now have been married for over twenty-three. We were both "late bloomers" and the result is the person you began dating at 19 isn't going to be the same person you are still married to at 50. "Til death do us part" could easily mean that one of you killed the other.

The saving grace in all of that was the birth of my daughter 13 years ago. Child birth, especially after already being married for a while, will make you love your wife in ways you didn't know existed before. My wife and I come from the same background, school, religion, ethnicity, city, politics, everything but nothing united us like the mutual project of raising a great kid. In my mind it's a "grown up" kind of love where you know there are differences, even secrets, but the shared stuff outweighs that.

I've known couples that shouldn't be married but remain so out of too much devotion to the rules. That's just as bad as anything else because all it does is create a dysfunctional situation for the family. One big reason some people stay together is to have another person in their life. I like friends, people, family, and while a challenging relationship isn't ideal the thought of being alone terrifies me and (I suspect) my wife. Enter into marriage patiently and carefully. It is a difficult union with lots of compromise and the only real rules are the one's you share with your spouse.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

All I can say from a single guys perspective is that I've seen way too many people marry in haste and repent in leisure, so take your time, and the person you're marrying will still be that person after you put the ring on, so don't expect them to change. If you're going to marry a biker that's into motorcycles, bars, and partying don't expect the guy to trade his Harley in for a minivan and play dates with other parents for the roadhouse just because you put a ring on him. I watched two of my friends do both of those and it ended horribly.
