So sad to hear about Jonathan Winters passing. He made me laugh through the years: Mad,Mad, Mad,Mad World, Mork and Mindy, His own show, His impersonations, his 'Hefty' comercials. Very witty and funny, it was a joy to watch him. He will sure be missed! :(

We seem to be losing a lot of famous folk these days... JW was one of the funnier ones. :(

Mr. Winters had that special humor that is lacking these days. There's not many shows or comedians out there that are truly funny... there's just too much silliness out there.

He also played the befuddled deputy in "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming." Brian Keith was the distressed chief; Alan Arkin and Carl Reiner also filled out the cast. Jonathan Winters: "We've got to get organized ...!!!?" A low key riot. I also saw him on a couple of interviews; he was one of those comedians who was a genuinely funny and positive guy, even off the set. He had a quick mind and wit, and could crack a Johnny Carson audience up for 15 minutes running, just sitting in the chair and being himself. RIP.

A lot of people thought he was Robin Williams father so they played to that gag in Mork and Mindy. I understand that Williams called him at least once a week and always gave Winters credit for being the godfather of their manic stream of consciousness humor. Funniest thing I ever saw one night on Johnny Carson was Robin Williams talking to Johnny when Winters appeared without warning dressed as a Confederate General and holding a gallon size jar labeled "Prozac". (popular mood altering anti-depressant) Winters then explained "I brought enough for both of us."
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

I did not see that Carson show. Nor did I know of the close connection to Robin Williams, but it all fits. He was very similar - constant double-entendres in a stream-routine. Robin Williams stand up cracks me up; now I know why.
