Survey: Getting There (and In)

Postby Viridian » Tue Jun 18, 2013 8:59 am

This one can stump writers. We all know about how the damsel has to struggle in the quicksand, but getting the damsel there in the first place can take a bit of creativity. So, here is this week's scenario.

The setting is a Pacific island, home to a small resort popular with Western tourists. Our damsel is one such tourist -- cash to spend, oblivious to the local languages and cultures and keen to explore the jungle interior. Needless to say, our favourite quicksand trap is also deep inside, and throughout the course of her adventures she will at some point encounter this deadly trap -- and perhaps end her adventure there.

How would you prefer the damsel to get to the quicksand?

In the specific context you mention I'd have her looking for it but for a given situation there's room for all of the above.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

I also love the accidential unsuspected person sinking in quicksand. That would cover many of the topics, i.e. being chased into it, accidential. However, as long as the sink in good, I think any situation is fine. The struggle and escaping from quicksand is of more importance to me than getting there, but a great qustion nonetheless.

To be truthful, although I like the lost/off beaten path idea the best, all of them would work just fine for me... :D

I've always been a fan of the gal wandering off the beaten path either intentionally in order to take a short cut, or accidentally straying from the trail due to the path becoming overgrown with vegetation and vanishing, or becoming obscure by mist or fog.

I vote "All of the above". How she gets in isn't so important as how sticky it is, for me. One of the problems I have with all of the filmed stuff is that the stuff the girls are getting into is so thin that they sink to their breasts (or deeper) almost immediately. I want to hear the mud sucking at their calves and feet for a bit, first. I really like the idea of them grunting with the effort of pulling a foot out.

(maybe I'm a bit odd, even for the QS fan page)

Now, some other stuff I like are personal themes thrown in. Getting back at the rich-bitch-boss is fun. Also, some long-suffering person who is supposed to keep some wealthy twit out of trouble having had the last straw could be fun, too.

I also like "It can't get any deeper" or "I've come over halfway" as being the "good" reason to keep going. ;-)

I voted for chased in... it seemed the closest to my real favorite, being thrown in or suspended over and dropped in by the villains
