there appears to be no copy of pm messages retained anywhere

I recieved and sent a reply, however when I send a message it seems to go into my outbox, I here no idea if that means it's sent or not

I don't know what Gamwam's PM box looks like but you only get to keep 50 messages.

At 51, it stops working until you delete some.

After you delete some old messages, you will be provided with a link to click on to release the new messages that were on hold. Of course, if you had a number of messages on hold and don't delete enough old ones, then only enough of the "on hold" messages would be released to bring your total back to 50, and you would have to delete more old ones to release the others.
