I have no idea who the "chattering classes" are, but they certainly sound like my kind of people. If there's confusion as to the distinction between the AR-15 and the shotgun, here's the solution: ban 'em all.

Local news station was mentioning, violent video games. Fucking scapegoat excuse. I've played GTA 1 through 4 amd NEVER had the urge to do anything in those games except while playing the games.

Plus, there hasn't been hardly any mention of whether or not he played video games at all. Like you said, scapegoat excuse, when really the man's mental issues and the lack of response to them,+ the seemingly lax security around the Navy Yard seem to be at the hart of the matter.

I understand there's going to be a review of security procedures... I would certainly hope so. It kind of boggles the mind that in this day and age post-911, where people are practically strip searched to even get on an airplane, that a military installation in the heart of the nation's capital would allow a contractor to stroll in with that kind of firepower... I really hope this is a terrible fluke, and not an indication of the state of security these days.

I'm all for the 2nd Amendment, but I don't think that a background check and mental health evaluation are too extreme. I just worry about it being abused, and that folks like myself with minor mental health issues (mild to moderate depression, successfully treated) will have our guns taken away. If you're so mentally ill that you can't be trusted with a firearm, should you really be wandering the streets? You can kill just as many people by driving your car onto a crowded sidewalk.

The concept of every law abiding person having to go through a mental evaluation just to purchase a gun is ridiculous, especially when the only excuse for it is isolated incidences like this (more on that later). Background check for felonies I'm fine with, takes 10 minutes and doesn't create a record.

The problem, as with EVERY mass shooter we've seen in the news lately, is that this guy has a record of serious, dangerous mental instability going back years, and nobody did anything till he picked up a gun and killed someone. Shoots a guys tires out because he's mad.....yea he got mad.....maybe take him for a nice trip to a mental facility where he can calm down and see a psychiatrist? Nah write him a ticket for "Malicious Mischief" and send him on his way. Goes into a crazy rage fit and wrecks up a bar? Ah never mind let the Navy handle it. Eight instances of serious misconduct in the Navy? Eh no biggie give the guy an Honorable discharge anyway and let him keep his security clearance. I'm sure everything will turn out fine.

And of course we have the usual crowd talking about how it's the guns fault. Yup, sure, because those extremely loose gun laws in DC totally allowed this guy to buy that shotgun online and have it shipped to his door and......oh wait......DC has in fact some of the strictest laws in the country. Until 2010 it was impossible to acquire a CCW permit. In fact, the naval facility where this took place is a "Gun Free Zone" where firearms aren't allowed. Guess captain retard didn't read the signs.

Also people need to stop the bullshit, there was no AR-15 involved here. The guy showed up with a Remington 870 (5 shot mag standard can be extended to hold 7) plugged two guards and took their pistols. So much for limiting mag size.

Here's that later I was talking about.
There are anywhere from 150,000,000 to 200,000,000 firearm owners in the United States of America (no I did not accidently add some extra zeros in there, that is supposed to be 150 to 200 MILLION). One half to two thirds of our population is armed.
In 2011 approximately 30,000 people died by gunfire. 20,500 or so of these were deemed accidental or suicide. Accidents happen and fuck emo people so that leaves us with a bout 9500 homicides. Do the math. Assuming the low estimate of 150 MILLION lawful gun owners, and assuming all the people committing the homicides were legally allowed to own a gun, that means that the percentage of people who commit crimes with their firearms is 0.00006%. Regardless of what the media and the lib/progressive assholes that run it would have you believe, that's not a trend, or a wave, or a plague, or any other buzz word that signifies a problem. In fact it proves just the opposite--when Americans choose to exercise their right to keep and bear arms the overwhelming majority of them do so in a safe, responsible and lawful manner..

Do I even have to get into the thing about video games? Seriously people come on......I have more guns than my police department and I've played every first person shooter since Wolfenstein. If video games made you violent I'd be sitting in a supermax prison right now with a body count higher then Robocop.

Evidently not, several news investigations in the last few days have revealed that apparently the govt. outsources security checks for many military and federal installations and apparently a lot of ex - convicts, including child molestors have been allowed into these places as a result of these private firms not going through stuff like the FBI's database and the terrorist watch list, choosing instead to go through outdated databases.
