DDG-1000 Float out

And Sal, others pile on in spades.
Skunk at Big_Z Party

Be sure to check some of the test vid links; STIFF? Hard on a crew?? You blithering fucking imbecile, between that and your uber-Galactica command centre, that is going to be one giant vomitorium. Plus, oh by the way, throw bodies and loose gear around like you would not fucking believe. This comment caught my eye: "It looks like the CSS Virginia and is probably as seaworthy"

And, yeah, not christening as an shutdown theatre excuse is MAJOR bad luck. Asshole non-sailors dont get that that is real. Ask the crew of K-19 how that worked out for them

That one to me the armor thing kind of makes sense.....if the game is cruise missiles a 100,000 paces there's really no amount of armor in the world that's going to save you.....those suckers can flatten whole city blocks. Might as well save the weight, make it faster and add a few more Phalanx batteries that could actually counter the threat.

Speed is worthless at cost of protection, since you cant dodge a 500-knot missile no matter how fast you are. More point defence would be great, except I don't think they have anywhere to put it. All these concepts could have been tested out on other platforms, but that doesn't feed someone's gravy boat. Trying to defy reality is something that won't be cured until they kill a batch of sailors, or the next shooting war.

That's an interesting question. Unless you go nuclear, even the Tomahawk only has a 1,000 pound HE warhead. The Exocet missiles that hit the USS Stark and HMS Sheffield only have 364 pound warheads. I wonder just what effect that kind of firepower would have on the 12" armor of an Iowa class battleship. There is also the possibility of using some sort of composite armor, but unless enemy missiles are using shaped-charge warheads (not needed against lightly armored targets) then good old steel armor would be much more cost effective.
