There's so many ways for this to be my favorite part of any scene that I can't put my finger on any one specific thing. There are moments when I like to see something sudden and unexpected take the victim under very quickly with great terror and there are other times that it has to climax slowly, carefully, almost like a sex act even if it's not specifically an erotic scene. Screaming is good but not too much or it just becomes annoying after a while. One thing that has been neglected in the past was the post submersion struggle, bubbles, and fight to get back on the surface. I doubt any lady who was really drowning in terror would accept her fate as calmly as is often portrayed. There's no one perfect answer in my book. I just hope they keep doing it.

I won't mix words, I'm a grim ending guy. Though strangely enough there are times I almost hope she is rescued. I dunno, it's strange how it works with me, but grim endings are def my fav. Why? Dunno. As for what type of grim ending? That varies. For the most part though i prefer the terror driven ending. I also like when there is someone watching them go down. One of my fav stories is PM2K's "Into You". The young man is so turned on and taken by the fact that his girlfriend is slowly sinking in quicksand, that he just stares as she sinks from sight despite her cries for help. To me that's good stuff.

I like both, depending on the circumstances. I could see Olivia Benson, Amanda Rollins (Law & Order SVU), Kate Todd, Paula Cassidy (NCIS), etc., seconds from death, pleading for their lives, all the while being taunted by the "perp," who comments especially how "tough girl" cops turn into sniveling little school girls when they're in trouble. He laughs maniacally, but is interrupted by a single shot between the eyes, from Sabler/Tutola/Amaro, or in Kate and Paula's case, Leroy Jethro Gibbs (or in a unique twist, Tim McGee.). Then, the rest of their respective crews pull them out of the muck just as they were going under.

In the case of total submergence, the typical lost in the jungle/running from a villain, etc., where our damsel gets stuck, and struggles until her arms get caught. Almost hysterical, she struggles harder, trying desperately to free her arms, sinking deeper all the while, until her final scream, face pointed toward the sky. sliding under the surface. Then nothing, except the sound of nature, as it was before she happened along.

In my fantasy the guy is slowly listing. At first his ears are filled. He hears the settling groans of the mud,the soft bubbles surround his head.
He then feels the hard jolt. And quickly closes his mouth,as the quicksand makes a hard viselike grip around it.
He is able to keep his eyes and nose free.And he also also frantically spits the mud away until he can no longer do this. He hears a loud bubbling rumble. He realizes he is about to sucked from sight.
He breathes frantically through his nose. And sucks in his last breath. A loud squelch pulls him under. Only a few hairs are viewable,and those too are slowly dissapearing.
He extends his strong manly hand. And feels the cool air he can no longer breath blow past it.
I have had dreams like this many times! Quite intense.

I agree with everything you said.

Cute girl + peril (quicksand) = turn on.
Grim endings for me are the ultimate peril. It creates realism, and my suspension of disbelief is fully engaged.

My thoughts exactly, Duncan. There have been a few scenes with some post-submersion movement, but not as many as I would have liked to see. I understand that it is ultimately up to the model/damsel to provide this struggle, and many of them may have ... other ... thoughts in mind once air is cut off and they slip completely into the grasp of the pit. I do like the encouraging improvements to newer videos and stills and look forward to continued improvement as the medium evolves and new models are introduced.

Submersions are an on-again, off-again thing for me. I usually prefer a rescue in a "damsel in distress" scene- but that doesn't preclude a submergence. Like where the Hero grabs the girl's hand just before it disappears, and has to drag her to the surface. Sometimes it just fits with the scene. That gets pretty complex- does the victim "deserve" their fate, either by being the baddie, or doing something stupid (self-bondage, then sliding into a mud pit comes to mind.) My favorite scenes are where the victim either doesn't give up, struggling all the way under, or where they are for some reason unable to struggle, and the mud slooowly swallows them. When a good actress nails the look of wide-eyed terror just as the character realizes they're going to go under- that presses some buttons. And sometimes the only thing left above the surface is a hand (or hands), waving, pawing, clawing, until the fingers finally stop moving, the arm goes limp, and the hand slooowly disappears beneath the bog.

The "spontaneous" submersions are inherently unrealistic and thus it's a little bit turn off, even more when it's badly played. I like more the "erotic" submersions which can be taken more seriously. But the fantasy aspect can be also exciting. My favorite video in this terms is Daves "Radio Call" because it's tripple turn on. In the end you watch one girl sinking and the other aroused by the mud itself and even more by watching the first girl sink (like you are watching her) until final submersion+orgasm. In this case the "mirror neurons" go totally crazy .

I get disappointed if there isn't a submersion. My favorite mental image is the head sinking out of sight and hands either continuing to claw at the surface until they go under as well or a single arm raised skyward reaching for a helping hand that never comes, and it too slips under the surface.
