The time has come...

Postby Parzival2600 » Tue Nov 12, 2013 11:00 am

One of the thing's that's really bothered me since I came back to the community after a long hiatus was the fact that it's become so commercial. There's plenty of sites selling the experience, so few sharing. This is not the community I knew when i first logged into it in '96. Back then it was about people coming together to share their mutual interest. Sure there was always stuff you could buy, but it didn't dominate the scene.

I've got something in mind, something I should have done a long time ago. I suppose it's better now, I have time and money. So I'm going to do it, I'm going to give this community a shot in the ass. Some will like it, probably most, but some won't. They have only themselves to blame.

Very, very soon, thing's will change. Keep your eyes open.

Well, a lot can change in seventeen years. And the commercialism, while seemingly extravagant, is also necessary so producers can keep making the material, especially since the demand for quicksand fetish fuel isn't in nearly high enough of demand as that of say, foot fetishists and furries and such. It's a very niche market so producers will have to charge what they can to make up for it.

People still share their mutual interest. It might be worth recalling that there was damn little to share before commercial producers began creating content for us. That content of course has a cost. You could take the cost away and then we'd be back to the good old days of having the occasional movie clip or composite photo that was shared across a freebie site like Yahoo groups which would go away when it pleased. Even those who don't pay for any of the commercial content benefit greatly from having having it available to those who do. We used to go for weeks trying to get a still photo that had to be downloaded in 64k parts and video was only available on clip tapes. Now there are hundreds of high resolution photos and video clips freely circulating in the community and a reliable place to call home at no cost to anyone who doesn't want to pay. All of this was paid for and created by commercial producers sharing.

Quite honestly I think your assertion is badly thought out and very short sighted.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

I don't want to argue this, I respect all views. However, I disagree with the assertion that there wasn't much back then. If you'll recall Wamsat. There was alot of people such as kaol, Longshot, Der mud gecko, QSArtist, Ol'Boggy, Foster Blake...to name a few, who clearly did what they did out of a love for our interest. I'm not knocking commercial endeavors, I fully understand their contribution to the community as a whole and I appreciate the hardwork put into them. I enjoy them myself. What i'm saying is that something fundamental has been lost. It's been mentioned that traffic on QSF isn't heavy. One only has to compare it with the heyday of DS to see that's true. I'm not blaming QSF for this in anyway. The community as a whole doesn't feel like a community anymore, there's no sense of identity. It's hard for me to put into words. There was a time when I was excited to see a new work from kaol or Derek Jayson. I felt connected. That barely exist anymore. I dunno, like I said, i can't fully put it into words, all I know is that the community is beginning to feel like any other fetish community and that is so not what I saw this community as. There seem's to be no encouragement to be creative, to contribute. It's sad. Don't believe me, just go to the wayback machine and peruse the QS community of yesteryear, note the interactions, the creativity. Hell, browse through DS's archive from when they first started and you'll see it.

Once again, I'm not knocking commercial endeavors, but this community should not be built around it, it should be just another feature of it. Please note that i don't fault producers with this, I blame those who have the power to effect this community, but do nothing. Thing's change, yes, but they change for the better. Stability doesn't always equal quality, infact it can sometimes promote malaise.

That's all I'm going to say on this matter. My plans stand. judge me when i unveil them very soon.

It's all done out of a love for "our interest". There is an entire area of QSF devoted to such contributions and it appears to be quite busy most of the time.

One only has to compare it with the heyday of DS to see that's true.

A lot of time at DS was spent bashing random members and arguing about stupid stuff. I know because I did a lot of it.

The community as a whole doesn't feel like a community anymore, there's no sense of identity.

Try not taking over a decade off. Try contributing something besides random noise about how you are going to do something to fix problems that nobody is complaining about.

It's hard for me to put into words.

I picked up on that.

... I blame those who have the power to effect this community, but do nothing.

And that would be who ?

Duncan, I'm so not doing this. When post begin to be picked apart maliciously, it's a sign of thing's turning ugly. I meant no disrespect to you and I apologize if I offended you inparticular. In the future if you have a problem you'd like to discuss, please do so via PM. Bickering is not condusive to the forum. That said, my opinions are mine and yours are yours, let's just agree to disagree and move on. I started this post simply to share my opinion and what I intend to do about it. I didn't mean for thing's to turn ugly and again I apologize for anything I have said that offended you or anyone else for that matter.
