Codec Question and Recommendations

Postby spunkee311 » Wed Nov 27, 2013 3:34 am

I have a 2007 Acer Aspire E 380 computer that has not given me any problems till now when play videos. When these new HD formats, MP4 came out, I had to install come codecs for them to be able to play on WMP. Not that I'm opposed to VLC, but just like the ease of WMP.

I had an issue today, where my screen was just black but the computer would still boot up. The monitor would still detect a signal but just no picture. Just a black screen. It might have an issue with the integrated GPU, so I installed this one - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102719. And now the computer works fine, EXCEPT, it plays the MP4 videos very sluggishly. Seems to be only an issue with MP4, since WMV plays just fine. Even VLC will play them kinda weird with cracks and stuff.

Any suggestions?

I can only suggest one thing, and its diagnostic rather than corrective. Try comparing the results of one of my scenes with that from a teaser. Both are rendered in H.264 (which is MP4) and with exactly the same settings EXCEPT for the image dimensions and the bit rate. If both still fail the problem is most likely with MP4 itself but if the teasers run then it likely has to do with the bit rate.
Studio 588 currently offers more than 2200 different HD and QD quicksand videos and has supported production of well over 2400 video scenes and other projects by 20 different producers. Info may be found at:

I tested multiple MP4's from all different producers and its the same result. It plays slow, like as if I hit the slow down button.

I did test the teasers, MPV and studio588 did play slightly better but still somewhat with the same issue.

Has to be something to do with speed. MP4 is more highly compressed than other methods, so some aspect of decomprssion it might be the problem.
