Man sues Las Vegas...

I saw this story on the news tonight.
During Super Bowl Weekend a guy visited Las Vegas and while having drinks he blew $500,000.00. That's right. Now he's sueing the casino saying he was too drunk to know what he was doing. He's claiming that the casino should have interviend at one point.

I'm sorry, but this is as entitled and ridiculous as the girl suing her parents for her tuition. If the guy was too drunk to realize what he was doing then maybe the casino should have intervened,if they realized it but he's the one who actually took the damn drinks and gambled while drunk, so I'd place the majority of his situation on his ass.

You don't just stagger over to an ATM and withdraw $500,000 , there had to be some paperwork or at least a signature involved here. In most states you can't enter into a legally binding agreement while drunk so the guy might have a case.

Last I heard, there's no law against gambling while drunk. IN FACT, having been there, that's the normal condition of most gamblers If this assclown went to Vegas and had a half-million dollars at hand, and lost it? Sucks to be you sunshine, suck it up. Actually there is. It's illegal for casinos to allow visibly intoxicated people to gamble or to serve complimentary drinks to someone who's already visibly intoxicated. If he was half as drunk as he claims to be they were absolutely in violation of the law. I've only been to a few casinos in NJ in my life but the gaming areas are surprisingly well behaved and anyone who does act up gets removed quickly.
The guy's rich so it's not like he's going to end up homeless but still they basically drugged and robbed him. Not only illegal but poor form.

This. Unless he took a breathalyzer while he was drunk to prove how much alcohol in his system (or was the falling down, slurring speech type of drunk and it was caught on the casino's video cameras), there's not much he can do to prove he was too intoxicated to enter a contract.

The problem with laws about bars, casinos and other establishments not serving alcohol to persons who are already intoxicated is that it's not always easy to tell who's drunk. Alcohol affects people differently. Someone could be drunk enough to be impaired, but may show few outward signs of impairment.

I saw a segment on ABC News a while back where, as an experiment, a reporter (I believe it was John Stossel), a professional bartender, and a lawyer who had sued bars served drinks to several persons in a controlled environment. All of the participants were sober as the start of this exercise. When it was over, the three servers were asked to say which of the persons they served was legally drunk. There was one fellow who was clearly drunk, and they all guessed right that he was over the limit. However, there was one young woman whose BAC was .12. This was still when the legal limit was .10. She showed no visible signs of being impaired, but she was legally drunk.

I think it's more than a bit much to ask bars, restaurants and casinos to keep an eye on all their patrons. Obviously, they must practice due diligence. At the same time, while it's obvious when some people are inebriated, it's not so obvious with others.

I also think anyone who goes into a casino and drinks and gambles is playing with fire. Casinos exist to find ways to part you with your money. Drinking while gambling is almost as dumb as playing with matches in an explosives warehouse.

Except for, the minute you sit your ass down at a table, you have a drink before you; unless you alergic to alcohol, you WILL be getting a drink. Even watered down scotch and US Bud will make some impression, eventually. The only tables where you have some real control are the ones the whales at, the crowd looking like the fallout from Jabba's Palace. And about as cheery. You there, you can afford it. Or you are seriously fucked in the head. Those guys are the SERIOUS gamblers.
