It looks really good from the ads that I've been seeing on tv and not to mention that every time I hear about Godzilla I keep thinking about that Snickers commercial with Godzilla in it.

Been waiting for this one. Also been keeping check on Rotten Tomatoes, currently 79%, was at 90 at one time. I don't listen to critics, but to know that my mean green friend will be laying waste to a few cities will be great to see.

I will admit that I checked a lot of the reviewers who stated this movie was bad... I am not sure if they saw the original 54 Gojira. One review stated he liked the 98 abomination better.

I will be seeing this.

I wonder if this will be as bad as the Matthew Broderick version. I am in no hurry to find out. Re-makes are almost always dreadful (my son recently took me to see Robocop Mk 2 - sheesh); so a re-make of a re-make...

Since we're discussing monster movies, however, the sad news has been announced recently that H R Geiger - creator of the Alien - died recently.

I saw the movie this weekend. It isn't my favorite Godzilla movie ever by any stretch, but it was much better than the Matthew Broderick crapfest from 1998, and, to be honest, much better than the last Toho entry, Godzilla: Final Wars. I did get a bit irritated that the director kept cutting away from the monsters just when it looked like some good mayhem was about to go down. He saved all the monster action for the end of the movie. The director admitted in interviews that he used Jaws as a template, and I'm sure that is why the main family in the movie is named Brody. If you enjoy the classic Godzilla films, you should like this one.

Just FYI, for those who don't know....most fans of the "real" Godzilla series refer to the 1998 Matthew Broderick movie and monster as GINO (Godzilla in Name Only). There was even a line in Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (or GMK for short) that stated: "American experts believe Godzilla attacked New York in 1998. But that wasn't Godzilla." I have no problem accepting the 2014 film as a "real" Godzilla movie. BTW, if you haven't seen GMK, I think it was the best Godzilla movie of those released in the 2000-2004 series.

As I left the movie theater I passed two male unicorns having butt sex on a rainbow. It was truly a sight to behold, but still not as gay as Godzilla.
Every fucking time.....I play the excited Charlie Brown, rushing at a shiny CGI football saying to myself "They're gonna' do it! They're actually going to make a movie that's good! They can't possibly screw up this time!".
Nope. yet again Hollywood Lucy yanks the ball away, and yet again I faceplant into the ground $20 poorer.

I havent seen it yet but that sounds like the same basic moviemaking flaw; cgi is nice but when you compare it to old school models and effects, the look is not the same. The huge ImpStar models they used in Empire were incredibly detailed and allowed a scale that cg just cant match.

The CGI is great. 10x better and some dipshit prancing around in a rubber suit. The problem is this is a Godzilla movie.....a two hour and ten minute Godzilla movie......but in the first hour and forty minutes Godzilla on screen for maybe 90 seconds. Apparently the director was a "Jaws" fan and trying to create suspense. Do I even have to explain why this doesn't work in a Godzilla movie? Seriously, not showing Godzilla in a Godzilla movie to create suspense is like going to the titty bar and waiting an hour and forty minutes for the dancer to take her fucking top off, and the whole time she's talking about how much she loves her boyfriend. I go to titty bars to see titties. I go to Godzilla movies to watch Godzilla wreck shit. If I want to have feelings I'll go watch Schindlers list and think about how much better it would be if Godzilla showed up.
Sorry if that ruins the movie for you but I'm not joking, you can show up to this thing when it's about 3/4 of the way over and not miss anything even remotely important.

I thought it was great. It was worth the long buildup to have most of the monster action at the end of the movie. there are plenty of "Why the hell are they doing it that way?" moments, but I can't think of a movie that doesn't have them. It is definitely a Godzilla movie made for a general western audience. While I would prefer a made in Japan wreckin' shit from bell to bell Godzilla movie, I was more than happy to see this one. the little references to older movies were nice. (Serizawa, Mothra) It wasn't as mind blowing as Pacific Rim but overall I found it satisfying.
