World Cup Stuff

Postby kham » Tue Jun 24, 2014 9:08 pm

Not really following things, although the coverage is pretty good in Ontario.

But reading through Dennis Miller's twitter feed, guess one of the gentle flowers went down and had a boo-boo, and after the subsequent application of the magic sponge :P miraculously recovered - after the foul called of course...

But Dennis posted
Hockey players must look at soccer players in the same way centurions observed lyre harpists.

Luckily was not drinking anything at the time
But he aint wrong :D

If you take a soccar ball to the face you're going to get a bloody, maybe broken, nose. If you take a hockey puck to the face you're going to lose teeth and break facial bones. Hence the pads.
The sport with the most paying spectators is actually NASCAR. :P

And for the Quidditch fans on the forum, is anybody else following Puddlemere United?

You can add human bite wounds to the list of injuries as well.

Yeah, what the hell is that bullshit all about anyways?

I know the fans can be somewhat psychotic (murdering referees, burning down stadiums....) but the players generally assumed to be not assholes

I thought we were just having fun, didn't know this was gonna get real

soccer can be a truly dangerous sport... they're going all out with minimal protection, and their bodies can take a beating; my son broke a finger that is still a bit crooked

but soccer players also dive to get calls and writhe around like they're dying, then 3 minutes later they're right back at it...for me thehe worst is when a player gets the ball in the box and doesn't look to shoot, but waits for the first bit of contact so he can collapse in a heap and get a Penalty Kick

the closest sport that comes to mind is basketball, where even top players like LeBron will flop to get a call... both soccer and basketball have made feeble starts at punishing floppers, but they've got a long ways to go

still, in a couple of hours i'll find a bar full of fans to pull for the USA to do enough to advance... if we can, Belgium hasn't looked that good... quarterfinals possible???

Okay, so today- the Americans lost to the Germans 1-0. But because Portugal (?) beat Ghana 3-2, the Americans advance to the elimination round? We don't understand. :?
