One place in northern Ohio that I see that looks like it has plenty of mud is at

But, there is also the neighboring Grand River

Then there are nature preserves/wildlife refuges, but some areas aren't remote, so there is risk of discovery, and then there are the people who go to those areas, such as birdwatchers and other nature lovers:
