Of course it's a pistol. That's clearly a pistol buffer tube and a wrist brace. Much better then using a regular stock, which would require all that pesky ATF paperwork and a $200 tax stamp. If that were my pistol I'd also install a solvent trap to catch drips while cleaning. Very useful, those solvent traps.

:D
Well, for a "pistol" then, it's accuracy sucks big baducci

Compare to the HK, and forget it. First thing (after 'its an AR' :) ) I thought was 'gimmick' followed closely by 'unwieldy'

But wth, it likely has a niche just like every other gadget.

The shorter barrels don't stabilize the higher velocity rifle rounds as well, and shorter barrel equals shorter distance between the sights. Not a tack driver but it gives a guy doing entry/door kicking/etc. a big punch rifle caliber in a package that can squeeze around corners and through doors better. Hell of a home defense gun too, if you don't have neighbors and overpenetration isn't an issue. 8-) "Pistols" are starting to catch on more now that there are "wrist braces" available that don't require a tax stamp.

Setting the bastard pistol/tactical rifle combination aside, the .300 Blackout seems like the ideal round to replace the 5.56x45mm. All the myriad advantages of the AR/M4 platform, with the stopping power of an AK.

Now, as to the "pistol" tested, I would have to make a couple mods. Would need a laser sight, and an on-barrel video camera hooked to a "Google glass" or some similar video display. Then you could use the arm brace to good effect, firing "robocop style". All kidding aside, that would let you fire from cover and around corners without exposing anything but your arm.

For sheer fun, I would need two of these critters, with 100 round double-drum magazines. Forget actually hitting anything- having one strapped to each forearm would kick ass!.. 8-)

The biggest problem the SMI pistol has, is the one the big fella points out himself; at relatively close range, the difference between the sights' aimpoint and the actual barrel is significant. So much so that even he couldn't compensate with his TLAR experience. Understandable, since the physical construction of the weapon blots out the view at close range. But you do have 30-odd rounds to blast away with, so for personal defence it may not be a consideration. Just messy :P

It's for aiming for center of bad guy at 5-10 yards. You'd have to be an Imperial Stormtrooper to miss at that range.
In all seriousness though I'll stick to my lowly 12 gauge for close encounters. Nothing says go fuck yourself like a 3" load of 00 Buck. FINALLY saw some actual factual Kel Tec KSG's for sale at the gun show last weekend, prices are still a little too high for my taste but at least I"m seeing some available. Cheap things come to those who wait.

A buddy of mine is doing custom loads for his 12 gauge 3" mag weapons. Some with 000 buck, some with a 1 oz slug plus three 000 balls.
