Scary first sink experience, help?

I think I have had 2 encounters with quicksand-The first was as Bart said set solid at about shin deep , took an age to get out,& was not that exciting
The second was an area of firm sand that "liquefied" with a little paddling about & ended up shoulder deep I played & jumped into it for some time with no sign of solidifying before I left. 2 days later it was solid sand which would not get soft at all If it had gone "solid" when I was in it I think I would have been in trouble I suppose timing is the important consideration
