I have really, really, really tried to like Scotch, but nope. I've come to grips with the fact that it isn't happening. It's one of those things you either like or you don't. To be fair I've seen plenty of people gag on Jack Daniels but I love the stuff.

I'm the same way... I'm not a scotch man, but my folks are. Dad prefers single malt, neat, no ice or water to drown it.... where one allows the water of life to evaporate in one's mouth... He even has a crystal glass to sip it from.

JD, though.... THAT I like. Especially when I'm in one of those "Screw it... let's see where the evening goes from here..." moods. Had a lot of adventures which reached Stage Two by cracking open a bottle of Jack.

One fellow I knew enjoyed something he called Double Jack... which is Jack Daniels and Yukon Jack in the same glass. Never tried it... so I can't say what it was like, but he swore by it.

Odd - I have the same problem with gin and tonic.

I confess that I've never tried Jack Daniel's (though having read an advertising poster on the Tube when I was bored, I can say "Jack Daniel's Old Time Old No 7 brand Tennessee sour mash whiskey" from memory - which is sad). The nearest I've got to anything distilled in the States was back in my student days, when I was inveigled into trying something called Southern Comfort. Oh dear. I don't know what is was made from, and I don't WANT to know.

That made me smile. It has been a LONG time since anyone called me "Sonny" to my face.

JD is what's known as a Tenessee Whiskey, the charcoal filtering process gives it a very unique smoky flavor. It makes your breath smell like a wood stove, but in a good way. It's not horribly expensive in the US, about $20/bottle, probably available in the UK if you interested.
Yukon Jack and Crown Royal--awesome offerings from the great white north. Yukon is a little rough and 100 proof will sneak up on you but it has a nice price point. Crown is a very smooth sipping whiskey, pricy but worth it.
