Stupid question

Postby quicksand_for_life » Wed Nov 19, 2014 6:25 pm

Hey everyone! quicksand_for_life here! I would like to ask everyone here a question and hopefully someone here has the answer to my question. What would you call a person who has a fetish for quicksand? I tried searching all over the internet about this but found no results and even my boyfriend looked at one point and he didn't have any results either. I know this sounds like a stupid question but I never knew the term you use on a person who has a quicksand fetish. Thanks in advance!

Well from a clinical point of view the term would be "Paraphilia NOS" with the NOS meaning "not otherwise specified." The term paraphilia means "sexual interest in objects, situations, or individuals that are highly atypical." Of course, the term "atypical" can mean most anything you want it to mean. According to a Wikipedia page that lists paraphilia type names, this latter point was made a short while ago when it was suggested that many so-called paraphilias (including some of the named ones) have never been seen by clinicians because... "....like allergies, sexual arousal may occur from anything under the sun, including the sun."

I always called us Quicksanders.

Maybe we should jump on this, and name ourselves before somebody else does it for us.

That's a good one. I guess we could always make up a name but either way I thought I would bring up this topic as I was always curious what people with quicksand fetishes would be called. :)

A closely related issue is whether or not use of the term "fetish" is correct. If a person finds quicksand sexually stimulating then it might be correct. However, there may be many people here who have different responses to quicksand. perhaps, for example, it is exciting but not in a sexual way. Also, the term "fetish" is interpreted by some as a form of illness. I believe the psychology community defines it as such only when its existence begins to interfere with one's ability to function. Others will see it as some form of problem that needs resolution. Openly acknowledging one's status in this regard is, I think, a way of telling those who see it as a problem that perhaps the problem is in their own mind.

I didn't like the existing definitions of "fetish" so I created my own.

I break "paraphillia" down into three levels; turn-on, kink, and fetish. I describe them like this:

Using women's high heeled sandals as an example-

Turn-on: A person sees someone wearing spike-heeled ankle strap sandals, and thinks "Mmm, nice!" Maybe sexy shoes become part of their fantasy life. Their partner walking into the bedroom in "hooker heels" might have the same effect as Viagra or watching P**n. But the person is still capable of having "vanilla" sex with no relation whatsoever to spike heels.

Kink: A person with a "kink" might only get sexually interested in a person wearing spike heels. They might request that their partner wear spike heels during sex, and might have trouble performing without fantasizing about sexy shoes.

Fetish: At this point, the shoes become the total sexual focus; the person wearing them is no longer necessary. This person focuses exclusively on women's high heels, perhaps even collects them, buys videos of them, etc.

Yea, it's unfortunately easy to reach a point where you're thinking about it too hard.
