That's one story plot that is no longer implausible.

Apparently it was an old drainage outflow rather than an actual sinkhole.

Im only an hour away...am wondering ho her head got underwater if it was only waist deep. Still, how scary is that, not knowing if it will give under you ome more...sinkholes can get big enough to swallow houses...or if things will cave in on top of her...yikes
Its all about peace and love and good happiness stuff

Speaking of, there was an episode of the 70s show "Emergency" (yes, I am that freakin' old :D ) where almost the exact same thing happened, except instead of water, there was either mud or soft dirt (or maybe the sinkhole was still caving in), because when Roy, Johnny, et al, got there and asked the lady if she was okay, she replied' "I'm slipping down!" It's actually a wonder that this doesn't happen more often, especially in areas where the mega-subdivisions of the late 1980's - early 2000s were built, and early on there were no regulations about bury pits, where contractors would discard excess material and debris. The stuff inside decays and degrades, leaving a big pocket of nothin', and one day, there goes half your house, or in this case, your spouse (sorry, I just couldn't resist :D ).

I remember that show Emergency well and that scene too. What it was it was an old abandon well that had been boarded over. There was no mud, just dirt.
